A potential human trafficking ring has been exposed in Johannesburg after a 19-year-old boy from Mpumalanga reported multiple kidnappings, alleged rape and assault to the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Gauteng.
The boy was found unconscious on the side of the road after his ordeal and taken to hospital where he later told authorities that he and his twin sister had answered an advert on social media in February which had brought them to the province.
The advert was looking for “people who are good in mathematics” for a supposed medical school in Johannesburg.
The boy and his sister sustained contact with the “school” owner who offered to pay for their bus to Johannesburg as they could not afford the fare alone. Once arrived at Park Station the pair was picked up by a black BMW and taken to a house in an unknown location where other young men and women – close to 24 in total – were also present.
According to the boy, upon arrival he and his sister were injected with a chemical substance and later raped and assaulted.
The boy said they left the house on June 7th and while his sister was taken away, he was left on the side of the road.
The boy’s aunt and guardian has since reported to the SAPS that she received a call from the young women stating that she was being taken to Lagos, Nigeria.
The SAPS have since informed the HAWKS who have proceeded to investigate the matter.
