The Democratic Alliance (DA) has requested that Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, release various reports pertaining to longstanding Gupta investigations following an 8-month dry spell on the subject matter.
The DA states that Mkhwebane has yet to deliver investigation reports based on complaints laid against the Gupta family nearly a year ago and that this silence has led to serious doubts surrounding her objectivity and neutrality.
“It is telling that not one of the reports released by Mkhwebane during her tenure have involved any key political figures, despite there being numerous complaints against such individuals”, writes DA Shadow Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Glynnis Breytenbach.
One such report surrounds the illegal use of the Waterkloof Airbase by the Gupta family wedding party in 2013, while other reports would shed light on Gupta-media brands as well as the family’s parliamentary influence.
Similarly, this follows a new complaint laid against Minister of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Zwane after it was discovered that he failed to declare a Gupta-sponsored trip to India in October 2012.
Mkhwebane will be appearing before the media on an unrelated matter later today. She will be expected to answer questions based on the lack of State Capture findings thus far.
