A man has been taken in for questioning following last week's attack on foreigners in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday.
Director Phindile Radebe said once police completed the questioning they would be able to decided whether to place him under arrest.
The suspect was arrested in Durban on Saturday.
"Our investigation is progressing very well and we expect to make arrests soon," said Radebe.
Zimbabwean Victor Zowa (24) and Tanzanian Omar Said (25) fell to their deaths from a high-rise building in Durban last Sunday when they tried to escape from a 150-strong mob wielding bush knives .
A third person, 23-year-old Eugene Madondo of Zimbabwe, was also forced to jump from a window but survived. He is in a critical condition at a local hospital.
The attacks prompted an outcry by foreigners living in South Africa who say the attack was xenophobic.
Police, however, remain adamant that it was a criminal act and not linked to xenophobia.
