A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 45-year-old woman in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, said Sebokeng Police on Sunday.

Constable Edwin Ntsheo said the man was caught sleeping in the woman's bed after dozing off following the rape on Saturday morning.

Along with two other men, he had gained entry into the woman's house by kicking open the door.

"They allegedly then went straight to the woman's bedroom and while one of them throttled the woman, holding a knife with one hand, the other undressed her," said Ntsheo.

The three men then allegedly took turns raping the woman.

Once they were done, two of the men fled the scene but the arrested man allegedly dozed off next to the woman, allowing her chance to call for help.

Police called to the woman's house found him sleeping on the woman's bed and arrested him, Ntsheo said.

The man would appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Police were still searching for his alleged accomplices.
