A 37-year-old woman and two men who had allegedly been raping her 10-year-old daughter over several months have been arrested in Pretoria, police said on Monday. Captain Shawane Sepato said the woman was arrested in Silverton on Sunday for allegedly failing to take action against the two men, aged 46 and 59, who had allegedly repeatedly raped her daughter since December 2008. The two men were identified as the child's stepfather and a neighbour. Sepato said the neighbour allegedly raped the child when her mother sent her to borrow money from him. The mother also used to send the girl and her brother to sleep over at the neighbour's house. The man would allegedly send the brother out to create an opportunity to rape the child. According to police the girl had told her mother about the crimes and she allegedly responded by telling her she was talking nonsense. The three were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court soon. The men faced charges of rape, the mother charges of being an accomplice to rape and child neglect. "Parents are warned to practice effective parenting and deal... with any report they receive from their children," Sepato said.
