Convicted IT expert Muziwendoda Kunene appeared briefly in the Pretoria Regional Court on Wednesday.

He appeared on a charge of defeating the ends of justice and attempted murder.

His case was postponed to 26 August after the defence requested a postponement to consult further.

Kunene appeared in court wearing a white sweater and with his hands and legs in chains.

Eight armed correctional services officers escorted him to court and stood guard in the courtroom, two behind him and two at each of the three courtroom doors.

Kunene allegedly shot himself in the hand on the pretence that he was shot for giving information to newspapers. He also allegedly shot his son in an attempt to prevent him testifying against him in a murder case in Bloemfontein.

Kunene had been convicted and sentenced on the murder case. He was being kept at the C-Max prison in Pretoria.
