A man believed to be a mastermind of cash-in-transit heists was arrested in Boksburg, police said on Sunday.

"The latest arrest on Saturday brings the team closer to their target of [arresting the] 10 most wanted cash robbery kingpins [with]in two weeks, with seven more days to go," spokesperson Musa Zondi said.

"[The man] has been positively linked to at least seven cash in transit heist operations stretching from 2001 to last year. These include robberies in Mondeor in 2001, Tsakane 2006, Tokoza 2007, Boksburg north twice in 2007, Eesterus in 2009 and Katlehong in 2009. He also escaped from lawful custody in 2002 from Witbank."

He said more cases may be added to his tally including charges of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm.
