Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride is still on "special leave", the Ekurhuleni mayoral office on Thursday reacted to reports that he was back at work.
"As far as I know... the decision of having put the chief of police on special leave has not been rescinded," said Ekhurhuleni mayoral spokesperson Prince Hamnca.
On Thursday, the Citizen reported that McBride had been seen at work since 1 September in the public safety building in Bedfordview.
"If there is a situation where he is back at work, we are going to ask the city manager to investigate," said Hamnca.
McBride was put on special leave pending the outcome of his trial on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, defeating the ends of justice and fraud arising from his accident on the R511, near Pretoria, in December 2006.
On Thursday, McBride told Sapa he had no comment to make about whether he was back at work or not.
