With the elections galloping ever nearer, the private lives of politicians in South Africa are under more scrutiny than usual.

There are a number of the questions that inevitably pop up in times like these: Do politicians deserve the same privacy afforded to 'ordinary' citizens? And how do their (sometimes scandalous) private lives influence their ability to serve the country?
