Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema will return to the organisation, league deputy president Ronald Lamola said on Monday.
"We still believe he is going to come back and we will raise this at the conference," Lamola told reporters in Johannesburg.
He was referring to the ANC's elective conference, to be held in December.
Last month during an interview on the BBC's World Service in London, Malema said his expulsion from the ANC would be automatically overturned when President Jacob Zuma was voted out of office in December.
He said his expulsion was being contested by African National Congress structures.
A group calling itself Friends of the Youth League was established shortly after Malema was expelled from the ruling party. It organises events around the country at which Malema can address his supporters.
ANCYL head of policy Abner Mosase distanced the ANCYL from the group.
"They are not our friends and we don't take responsibility for them," he said.
"We have no association with Friends of the Youth League."
ANCYL spokesperson Khusela Sangoni-Khawe said the league did not have regular contact with Malema.
"Comrade Julius speaks in his own capacity, but we do listen to what he says like we would listen to any citizen. [But] we won't take accountability for him."
