Striking workers at the Anglo Platinum mine on Thursday vowed to intensify their strike if their wage demands were not met.

Strike committee leaders told more than 5000 miners at the Blesbok Stadium that they will bring Anglo to its knees if the mining giant does not give them a basic salary of R12 500.

The workers are also disgruntled with their current working and living conditions.

The miners started their protest action on Tuesday, which prompted Anglo to suspend all its operations.

The Workers Strike Committee said it would lead a massive march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to call on President Jacob Zuma to improve their living conditions.

The committee's Mametlwe Sebei called on all mining communities across the country to unite for a basic wage of R12 500.

Sebei said government failed them because most mineworkers live in abject poverty with little or no access to basic services.

The committee was expected to meet with Anglo Platinum management at its offices to produce evidence of a previous wage agreement.

Meanwhile, striking miners remained in the Blesbok Stadium waiting for Anglo bosses to address them.
