SA bad mood-why
");
document.write("JP Landman is far off the mark. White people can do nothing about the politics and don't care. White people buy generators and stuff Eskom. White people cannot affect the economy as its ANC controlled so they just go with the flow and grumble.
HOWEVER, white people are very upset about the crime and the government's lack of will to anything about it. The police are underpaid, understaffed and uncaring and incompetent. The courts system lets criminals off with absurd sentences and the Correctional Services lets them escape if they can bribe enough with the money they stole.
THAT is what white (and for that matter, many many black) people are in a bad mood about.
The Jhb Metro police can have a 200 shot shootout with the SAPS and 4 weeks and more down the road they can only point to ONE arrest of a female traffic cop who stupidly came to collect her discharged weapon that had been dropped. LOFL.
Its like a banana republic.
Without the business sector that has provided the money for the ANC to be successful and the cash at every turn for poloticians and black businiess to be bribed, given perks, secret deals, it would have gone down the drain long ago.
The arms deal is the single largest scandal in SA ever! Far worse than the Rhoodie/Mulder crooks in the past.
SA purchased submarines to fight who? Jet aircraft to defend against who? B....it. We bought them so the secret commission could be paid to the cabal who engineered the deal.

Living in this country is akin to living under a permanent state of siege. People can live with Eskom not providing enough electricity, people can live with the WORLD economy heading south, hell, people can even live with the the ANC's wild governance.
What people won't tolerate is their lives being threatened with impunity in their own homes and having to live like prisoners behind 15 foot walls with electric fencing.. Martin");

What depresses me though, is the rising interest rates. Here is something we can our control:
Lowering interests rates can help people cope with uncontrolable rising prices such as oil and food oil.
Rising interest rates, however, cause people to loose their homes and thus erodes their investment, as well as reduse the positive effect of rising per capital incomes. All this adds to the gloom. Our Reserve Banks needs a serious re-think. No-where in the successful world does a Reserve Bank punish its people like ours do.. Frikkie van Kraayenburg");

document.write("Well i don't really think there is too much to be in a good mood about really!! Firstly the majority voters in this country seem to think it's very clever to vote into positions of power people who are destructive. I cannot feel happy when Malema, Vavi and Zuma are our \"top\" candidates making all kinds of ridiculous inflammatory remarks quite clearly bent on their own agenda's and making their own names. Secondly the trade unions are slowly but surely killing the life blood of the people and destroying the country much faster than the declining economy. It's tough to live in a country where everytime there is some xenophobia, flooding or houses burnt down that the people sit helplessly on the side and wait for the government to come by and house, clothe and feed them. The thing that's putting us whites in a bad mood is because the government does not run policies that actually teach people to be self sufficient but rather to depend on them - which is exactly why they are in power and we are in a bad mood!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!. TROY");

document.write("Thank you to JP for this enlightening analysis. I would just like to ask him to do an analysis on productivity. Our Rand has strengthened nicely since 2003 until 2007 on the back of foreign investment. Do we, as South Africans, have what it takes to make good on those investments? How do we make good on investments when our education statistics show less than 1% of matriculants getting distinctions for higher grade mathematics? What is happening in the agricultural sector? What is the impact of some industry sectors such as textile industry taking a knock due to a stronger Rand? What is the per capita income based on? The working class sector? Or have the burgeoning capitalist upper crust been included in the calculation? Has the cost of living been taken into consideration when looking at per capita income? How have the figures been discounted? Have the stats since 2003 not looked artificially wonderful because the CPIX was kept down but due to a strong Rand caused by higher interest rates which in turn works out beautifully for the capitalists and investors but not for workers? Has recent infrastructure expenditure been spent on roads that should have been maintained in the first place? Are some infrastructure projects not supposed to fall under 'maintenance'? Why is building football stadiums offering short term employment and long term debt when we should be maintaining excellent state hospitals filled with talented doctors who need mathematical backgrounds? Should the money not rather have been spent on tertiary education subsidies? Would the people would then be better skilled and become more productive? Should the money not have been spent on refinery capacity to maintain energy supplies? How much has the population really grown? Are we now not 10 years behind where we should have been had we chased policies different to the ones put in place by our ruling party back then?

document.write("SA Bad Mood
");
document.write("The article may be poised, but it is certainly not well thought through or balanced.
Firstly, lets take a look at the author. A political and trend analyst who consults to SA's largest private wealth business.
He is paid to be positive. His livelihood depends directly on people swallowing the rubbish he has written. Why on earth would he be balanced when that would negatively impact on his income?
It is all good and well to be positive, but putting a spin on hell does not make it heaven.
\"Comfortably more than 90% of these budgets are actually spent\". That may very well be, although I seriously doubt those figures. The rub though is that the budgets are being spent on delivering inferior quality deliverables. Just look at the RDP housing sham. Most of those rubbish homes are or have already fallen apart.
The infrastructure investments are being plundered at a rate faster than they can be built. Theft and graft at every level of government is zeroing out all that money spent.
As far as politics go, a regime that has so little respect for it's citizens, and such a high regard for it's own criminal elements that it will disband the only effective policing unit in the country, is sending a clear message that it not only tolerates criminal activity, but that it actively encourages it, while taking to task those few individuals dedicated to stopping crime.
\"For me the most important precondition of progress is sustained rising per capita incomes.\" What absolute rubbish. The most important precondition of progress is that those rising incomes are supported by an equal if not exceeding rise in productive output. SA has a trend of rising incomes and declining productivity. This is not a sustainable model, not even in the medium term.
\"If a country cannot grow its economy quicker than its population, it is going absolutely no where. South Africa is clearly not in that league.\" This observation is so seriously deranged and devoid of truth that it barely even warrants this response.
\"Rising incomes mean resources to tackle problems, create jobs, fight poverty and build infrastructure.\" In the first world that is what they mean yes. SA is not the first world. What rising incomes mean here is more money being earned for less productivity, and to be spent on luxury imported goods. There is very little that the rising incomes do for fighting poverty and the other honorable causes mentioned.
The most serious of all issues facing SA however, is not touched in this delusional article. The crisis of land distribution and the land expropriation bill.
The ANC regime is hell bent on removing private property rights, and on destroying the ability of the farming community to produce food, by handing over productive land to incompetent and incapable people.
These two acts alone will destroy any and all positive \"facts\" mentioned in this article beyond all measure.
Now lets see: SA Bad Mood. Why? Can you blame anyone?

This article is welcome in that it is an antidote to all the sensationalist negative rubbish we have shoved down our throats, but it is just a synopsis.
South Africa has joined the world now, and paranoia about whites being excluded from the workforce is just that - paranoia.
In the global market where skills are in short supply, colour doesn't enter the equation.
And by the way, South Africa does in fact need a navy and an airforce, and the upgrade was sorely needed.

");
document.write("One needs to define what is considered 'optimistic' and what is considered 'pessimistic'. I find this categorisation pointless. Rather try to look at things on an objective level - i.e. a realistic level. To portray whites as being significantly more pessimistic than the rest of the population is both irresponsible and dangerous.
Of course there have been both positive and negative developments over the last few years. On the positive developments, we can commend those responsible and try to see how we can enhance and maintain those. On the negative developments, we need to see how we can address these and work on improving them.
So lets do a factual analysis on South Africa:
1) One of the highest crime rates in the world, most importantly violent crime, and the crime statistics have not been reduced by any significant margin for many years
2) An active policy of racial discrimination in employment that only prejudices one racial group (whites) and there is no indication of this policy ever being phased out
3) No effective opposition party and is by default a one-party state
4) Economic growth rate is below that of similar developing countries
5) One of the world's highest, and rising, Gini coefficients (a measurement of income distribution in a country)
6) Has no social security system
7) Has one of the highest tax burdens in the world (when considering the percentage of the population that pays most taxes)
8) Has an ineffective public health service
9) Has an ineffective public educational system
10) Has an ineffective criminal justice system and incompetent policing service
11) A high rate of corruption, especially in the public sector
12) One of the highest fatality rates on the road in the world
13) One of the lowest life expectancies in the world at 42.45 years
14) The highest rate of HIV infections in the world
These are some facts current day South Africa. Merely for indicating these facts, many would consider it to be pessimistic but I argue that it is a realistic assessment. I guess what could convert peoples perceptions of these facts from being realistic observations into pessimism could occur due to a perception that these issues are not being addressed effectively by the ruling government. .
