Why does it look like women should be the only ones who make an effort to preserve their virginity??As much as some men like women who are still virgins, don't they (men) think that some women also like men who are virgins??? And why am i not suprised that it is a man opposing what Rebekah said!!!! . Black woman");

Why should every child in the Eastern Cape be subjected to such savage practices. \"In the intrerests of unity, Africanism and silencing those tiresome ivory towers.\" Africanism should not equal saveragy! The whites had initiatiosn in university dormitories. Those were rightly outlawed. Time for black practices to be civilised to.. Piet");

It evolves constantly, the worrying thing is the general mindset amongst African countries seems to be to maintain century old traditions at any cost. The culture of non payment of rates was a good thing to resist the Apartheid gorvenment, but in the new SA, it's dragging us down.
The culture of bank/ATM/CIT heists was useful in getting money for the MK and rendering the country ungorvenable, but today it is harming the very so called liberated people.
The culture of keeping the black man illiterate was convenient to make us easier to oppress, but now the very people who created that culture are wondering why the top leadership of the rulling party has no regard for education.
Why go back to your roots if your roots are bitter?. Nockie D");

In its pure form, there is nothing wrong with the reed dance, however the misconduct and biased coverage of this event now makes it more of a subject for ridicule by people who obviously lack understanding of its significance. By the way, Swazis also have a boy's dance called \"Lusekwane ceremony\" but the world conveniently ignores coverage of such. There is also \"Incwala dance\" for the mature adults etc. Perhaps what would make the world happy is to see a gloomy,miserable Swazi nation with no celebration.Cultural celebrations are best managed and reviewed by the people attached...this quest for a complete second wave of colonialism cannot help Africa to preserve its celebrated identity. Let the nations celebrate humanity, manhood and womanhood..... Zach");

We have kids not even in their teens on MXIT and running around malls dressed for hip hop videos, either skantily clad or their jeans hanging around thier knees advertising boxer shorts, enough make-up to re-sink the titanic, wearing Nike shoes that cost a months minimum wage, they having parties and sleep overs earlier and earlier, mostly unsupervised thanks to our generations 'open-mindedness' and busy schedules. YOUR kids would never do this, yet we see and hear about it every day. Now all this huff over a bunch of prancing virgins? Get real.... Lepper_Messiah");
document.write("First disclose your culture before you can scrutinize somebody elses.
");
document.write("is always uncalled for of someone, who is not in any way related to that particular society in question, to scrutinize that society’s cultural issues. Every culture is so deep-rooted that not even the people practicing it may fully comprehend it.
Two weeks back hell broke loose in one of KZN hospitals because the authorities were against the Indian nurses wearing their sacred bangles/wristlets and masking their faces with “holy dots”. The matter was accorded such a high urgency that it was attended to and resolved within a week with the help of Department of Health.
Some races are not culture oriented but “religion oriented”. Depending on how one scrutinizes complex issues, both culture and religion demand a lot of loyalty on the individuals practicing it. With some races, their religion is a build-up of cultural fragments, which accords them a wider blanket to be seen as a “religion”. Once a particular practice is labeled “religion”, it is immediately immune from any possible criticism by the public or lobbyist.
Peoplemust first disclose their cultures to us, stop putting their cultural fragments in basket and call it “religion”. If they are prepared to have their cultures subjected to public scrutiny and criticism, then, they too, can start helping us scrutinize and re-shape our cultural issues.
