Too many assumptions.
"); document.write("I think these guys are too optomistic w.r.t. the use of the internet and SMSs.

Personally, I did not mind getting and SMS from the DA and thought that it was clever. It also did not annoy me, cause I did actually forget about it after the 1st SMS and by the 2nd one, I made sure I planned to register. They even gave me a call.

I'll admit that this (the call) was a becoming annoying. I think they should stick to the impersonal stuff, like the internet, SMSs and email. Once they start calling you, the person on the other side must trained to speak well and clearly and make sure they can speak the language of the person they are contacting, or else they will get a negative tick easily.

This Buckland dude is a bit overoptimistic to actually quote 10% (5Mil) people will be reached, because anyone with a little logic will know that even if you have 10% of the population with access, only 15-30% (0.75-1.5Mil) of the 10% will actually be reached, since people have filters or metally filters which filters this \"####\" out.

I also think that it is an assumption that the 10% access are influencial people. What bollocks.

The reason the ANC does not use the internet much is because of their target market. They know that the TV and the radio is where their target market is, so they give SABC free up to date interviews as often as they can. They will also try to visit them as much as they can in their communities.

There will be no debates on TV/radio, because there are some clever voters who will understand what is being said and will explain to the dim stars out there why this is an issue. So only interviews.. MTBer"); document.write("
I disagree with Goldstuck's comment on the DA sms!
"); document.write("They did work for me and they worked for a lot of people I know! Are YOU sure YOU know what YOU are doing? SMS's are cheap and efficient! My kids text all the time! Seems to me you got this one wrong sir!. John"); document.write("
@ MTBer
"); document.write("I totally agree with you except on the issue of TV/Radio debates. These simply won't take place because the ANC is too scared to enter into such debates and run the risk of being ridiculed by a superior adversary/interviewer. As JZ has already stated when he said he would not enter into a debate with Zille.. Muerte"); document.write("
Websites don't Push information, SMS's do
"); document.write("I would welcomed an informative SMS's from a party. Information via SMS is there for me to ready when I want, I didn't need to get to a PC to look for an online presence.

How many people will \"guess\" where the online presence is. Facebook, you can't push information via Facebook. Facebook is littered with 100s of useless groups. Just search for Zuma or DA and see how many groups you find. Which one is the official one?

Where does Arthur Goldstuck get his facts from? 30 people who were irritated does not constitute \"inappropriate\" use. Furthermore certain parties email weekly newsletters and have a very up to date website.

If you need information about a party, you do what the rest of the internet savvy people do: You \"Google it\".

The article says the youth are apathetic. It's the youth that have the modern day know-how to use the internet effectively. Like RSS feeds and google alerts and user forums. Something which Goldstuck failed to mention.

Goldstuck claims that Mxit can reach the youth. Once again he doesn't understand the demographics of Mxit users. Mxit users are mostly school goers and can't vote.

I do however agree with Goldstuck that the IEC's website was pathetic in handling many requests.. Roger Weiss"); document.write("
Poll shows people need live prensence rather than 'click factor'
"); document.write("Another comment on why I think Goldstuck is barking up the wrong tree.

According to a News 24. poll this week, of the choices (Young people swing votes | The web shouldn't be ignored | Live debates are important), people would rather see live debate.

In the light of Zuma declining live debates with the opposition, I can understand why.. Roger Weiss"); document.write("
