Zim's \"unfolding tragedy\"?
"); document.write("The tragedy in Zim has already unfolded. The greater tragedy however, is the complete lack of involvement by world leaders before all this came to a head. There they were, all sitting on their hands pontificating about this being a purely internal affair in which they could not become involved. What a bunch of lily-livered sheep.

We all knew this was not going to just go away. Anyone who has had any experience of African affairs knew that Mad Bob is completely out of control and has been for many years. Diplomacy and reason were never going to work. He needed to be taken out by any means available long ago. But he's been left to continue his evil and bring Zim and its people to their knees, not to mention their graves.

It's too late, you spineless wimps. The damage has been done.. Pale Native"); document.write("

Do you see this obnoxious, perma-tanned hypocrit saying anything against the litany of curruption and human rights abuse perpetrated by the very demigogs he helped put in power. NOTHING, ZERO, NADA!!! He is probably too busy working out how these 3rd world despots steal so easily from THEIR electorate and get away with it while he was taken to task for serious fraud when all he wanted to do waws use some funds for his own private accounts.. simon whittaker"); document.write("

Emigrate?

Running away from a problem has never solved it.

Also, you should remember, Bob, if you can spare a moment to think less of your own situation, that there are many South Africans who have neither the means, the opportunity nor the desire to tuck their tales between their legs and slink off into the shadows.

So, Bob, while you can sit in your safe little haven and criticise (which is your choice), you might consider this - it's the likes of you who accelerate the demise of a country like this. It's those who stay behind that give it some chance.

Is that OK with you, BOB? . Pale Native"); document.write("

In response to your rather sarcastic comments, having been born & raised in Rhodesia, we headed for SA when my father was threatened with jail by mugapie's thugs back in the early 80's. We still have relatives suffering in zim under mugapie's rule who thought the same as you & 'stayed behind' - look where it got them. As individuals, you can do NOTHING to fight such a dictatorship and being in a minority makes things even worse. The state has informants everywhere. People disappear. You don't know who you can trust to form some sort of cohesive opposition, so how could you fight them?. It takes BALLS for someone like Tsvangirai to do what he has done (actually putting your life on the line - you prepared to do that?) and even now, the results are questionable.

As for me, I headed for the UK nearly a decade ago when I saw the same pattern of decline happening in SA - I had no intention of being marooned at the mercy of a despot whilst an uncaring world looked on, which is a real possibility in Africa... the wrong guy gets into power & that's it. So far, you have been relatively lucky in SA. The change was peaceful thanks to Nelson Mandela, but the government's denial of the situation in zim and their unwillingness to condemn mugapie should be sounding warning bells.

Another thing, no-one is going to look after you in old age. I may be wrong, but I think that in the future, as a white person, you will be just one of the masses, competing for health care, food & water & may even be sidelined because of your colour as is happening in zim unless you have money to buy yourself out of trouble, a luxury I certainly did not have when I was there and could foresee my situation just getting worse as I grew older and unable to work. Because of rampant inflation due to mismanagement, pensioners in zim are left destitute. They may have a pension for example of Z$10 million a year which back in 1980 may have looked like a fortune, but nowadays is literally not worth the paper it is printed on... Think about it.

I now find myself in the position where I have a good job, earning some 20 times p/a what I earned in SA and most importantly, I am able to afford to send food aid (hundreds of kgs, shipped to their door)to my relatives still stuck there - something I could never have done had I stayed in SA.
Before you say that I had the 'means' to come here, I had a job in SA that paid a below average wage for what I was doing and did extra work after hours to save cash. When I saw the writing on the wall, I took my savings, bought a ticket & arrived here with a few hundred pounds. I took what work I could get & the rest is history, so I personally would advocate that anyone who can get out to do so... It's not about 'running away', it's about SURVIVAL.. Bob"); document.write("
