Shooting of Innocent Boy
"); document.write("I am appalled. This is an indication not only of \"cowboy\" behaviour on the part of the shooter, but, EVEN MORE importantly, a clear sign that people will take the law into their own hands, often with tragic results, because we CANNOT trust our leaders to protect us from the scurge of crime in this country.. Sue Botha"); document.write("
Spot on Sue.
"); document.write("The fact that this homeowner was so quick to shoot is worrying. Firstly a question of communication comes into play. Did the domestic worker inform the homeowners that her grandson would be visiting. Surely if she had, the homeowner would have rationalised that the noised was caused by the boy. This story is extremely sad. The second point that has to be stressed is that people have become hysterical because of crime. We don't know what has recently happened to this homeowner or his family that caused him to be so reactive. I was held up leaving my practise two weeks ago, had a gun at my head and one in my back, tied up, face covered etc. I am very vigilant when I leave work now, to the point of triple checking security. It is time the government got time crime under control, I am so sick of it. This boy's blood is on the ANC's hands. I repeat again, this is a tragedy. . Rocky"); document.write("
Get the facts first...
"); document.write("According to the interview with the grandmother on 702 Talk Radio this morning, the woman & her grandson had gone to warn the homeowner of noises near the outhouse as she was scared since there had been numerous break-ins recently (including at the outhouse on that property).

The owner told them both to stay in the house, called the security company, then went to investigate. He fired warning shots in the direction of the outhouse when he saw movement, sadly hitting the young boy (who had ventured out against instruction) and fatally wounding him.

While this is a desperately sad situation, try to also think of the homeowner, who is probably feeling terrible about what happened too. Who's to say what we might each have done under the same circumstances? Fear and feeling endangered are potent factors here.

And shame on the policeman, speaking \"on condition of anonymity\" who gave false impressions to the media to cause a stir!. Fiona"); document.write("
For sure Fiona
"); document.write("Fiona, your explination sheds further light on the situation and thankfully shifts the majority if blame away from the homeowner. I do feel for him as he must feel terrible for what he has accidentally done. The government need to do something about crime now, or else this kind of tragedy will be replicated.. Rocky"); document.write("
Shooting
"); document.write("The government went to great length to have fire arms re-licensed with competency checks etc.etc. The law states that you MAY NOT shoot warning shots because of exactly what has happened now. You may only discharge your fire arm if your live is eminently in danger and only to a clear target. This shooting in the dark to something that is moving is just not on.

However! All the previous comments are valid. So what now?

ANC = Government = useless!! . RAP"); document.write("
