document.write("The state is a violent institution that is why it is tempered with the separation of the three powers: i.e. judiciary, legislative and executive.Where the three resides in one person or entity unchecked, there is bound to be violent oppression of innocents.
The church wields massive psychological power. When the church and state reside in one entity, the results have consistently been disastrous for ordinary people throughout history.
Religion, God, and all other related concepts are man-made social constructs. Every generation must debunk its most cherished religious ideas especially when they fail in the face of social challenges and reality. Its a long dangerous walk to freedom from the days when Rome(RCC) decreed on point of death, that the earth was flat.
All religions have always been violently opposed to freedom and free flow of ideas. The Crudases. the Inquisition, the Jihads, the War on Terror,the Gaza massacres, behind them all are little insecure men who use their power to brow beat and kill those whose ideas are opposed to theirs.
The best thing ever to happen to South Africa is a secular state. It is no joke that when religious bigots are in power, they dont hesitate to kill those who dont share their ideas.
We live in the 21st century with an amazing freeflow of information. It would be a miracle if religion, in its present form, will survive this.
Religion must evolve and become better. Its a far cry from the days in Europe when a man was jailed for adultery; when divorce was not allowed; the fact is that religious leaders never heard from God in the first place. God has always been conceptualised as a super human being with needs and desires that uncannily resemble those of the ruling priesthood/prophets/religion.
It is difficult to believe in God and not believe in the violent oppression of others. You have to listen to the arguments raised in Tel Aviv and Washington and reasons put forward and the formidable ####nals maintained and the low key wars fought, to have the fear of God strike your heart into numbness.
Religious violence is jusitified on \"moral grounds.\" In South Africa recently, prominet leaders of a world known religion, chose to fight a speech made by a woman cabinet deputy minister rather than deal with issues of wanton violence, intimidation and destruction which their religion expressly forbids. It is this kind of tunnel vision and imperviousness to common morality that make religions tha bane and terror of ordinary people. Jesus aptly talked of straining a gnat and swallowing a camel to illustrate this major weakness of all religions.
The God revealed in the Middle East whether He is Allah or Yahweh, has always been a military God;he is at war with His own creation and everybody except the Chosen Few, it is difficult to find a single adherent of these religions who honestly criticises the violent excesses of his government.
For the last 60 years I have failed to see a single American government that upholds, honesty, forgiveness, peace, mercy and justice as values. In stead we have reaped the bountiful harvets of CIA infiltrations, abductions, renditions, torture, lies and propaganda, economic greed, globla greed for other people's resources , all done without blinking an eye lid by a people who proclaim that they trust in God. The only thing holy in that country is its Military which has been absolutised above the greed and jealousy and lies that decides where it must fight unjust wars!

The church can never be involved because of the freedom religion clause in our constitution anyway, besides the fact that it is a bad idea and leads to greed. As for a God fearing country, the NP was a god fearing party, and look at how moral they are. The Bible is not a very moral book, some good people just make it so, others unfortunately prefer the Old testament. . chris");
