In the long run the Chinese illegitamate regime's dictation of foreign policy to governments like ours will lead us in the same path as present day China's , that of a country bereft of the freedoms that we enjoy and fought so hard for. The freedoms of speech, the right to vote, equality before the law etc not to mention China's total disregard for environmental and safety issues, the figure of 10,000 miners a year dying in Chinese mines and huge rivers and entire landscapes poisoned by industrial pollution just to mention one or two examples.
A similar short sighted argument was used by the apartheid apologists against sanctions.
I think the decision to exclude this honourable man from our country has probably more to do with certain highly placed individuals contracts and deals which might suffer if we do not appease the Chinese Communist party dictatorship. It is these people who exist within our government and ruling party whose ideals are more about accumulation of personal wealth and power and who pay empty lip service to the principals of the ANC who have driven this decision.

What makes it different from colonialism is that the Chinese are paying for all of this with huge reserves of American dollars. The Western ideal of a continent governed by democracies that have a foundation in respect for human rights, the rule of law and which embrace free markets is now being put to the test by disproportionate Chinese influence in Africa (which by their dithering the West have allowed to happen at alarming speed). Ten years ago when I was still in China I read a book written by a Swedish man about his five years experience in a rural Tibetan village where he as a volunteer taught English and Music in a primary school. He recorded his life with these humble people and with every progress he made to improve his Tibetan, he got to know people there better and eventually he showed a Tibet different from the stereotype he got in Europe. His book focused on conflicts and struggles his village people had in the progress of modernisation, but contrast to what Europeans usually believed, people in the village were not oppressed, they did have freedom to practice their religious belief and they had their own land to farm or herd which their great grandfathers never had.

Capital - liberal in expression, reactionary in method - will not follow these justifications (with hoots of China) as these shortsighted financiers will have us believe. Mr. Manuel should know better. Economics is automatic!

Dalai Lama

Corrupt South African politicians have done their fair share of impoverishing our people, Mr Moolla, never mind the recession! Justin. Justin"); document.write("

This new world order is gonna leave SA even further behind the curve - simply part of its brother Zim. So why does it shock anyone that the man more popular than the Pope is denied a visa?! Had they simply let it slide, nobody would have noticed or cared, but the chinks already knew this and checked SA's Queen.
Later they could have blamed it on corruption/stupidity/colonialism/yadda & the world would have moved on. Now its stuck in the Merde, and looks to be the bad guy, joined at the hip with #1 Bad Boy China.
All the wonks in DC & London are nodding - \"Told ya so!\"
The chinks will suck up to anyone/anything/anytime - its just the way they are, like a dog, they gotta #### on everything.
Likewise Africa. There is always an ulterior motive - but get real here - they are scared shootless of Africans, PERIOD.
OZ just blew the chinks out of the water on that $2.6B OZ Mining deal for security reasons - smart, with due diligence
China could probably buy Anglo & De Beers for peanuts, but its too far away, worthless & might get nationalized tomorrow. Start praying & keep your powder dry. Jack"); document.write("
