Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education, admits she spent over a quarter of a million rand on a party to celebrate her Parliament budget speech.

DA spokesperson for education, George Boinamo, asked the question in parliament.

Motshekga admitted that her department blew a grand total of R267 044, including R50 000 for refreshments and R20 500 for entertainment, on the lavish party.

Around 250 guests attended the event.

Motshekga was criticised earlier this year the purchase of two government vehicles, a BMW 730D and a Range Rover Sport TDV8, which cost the taxpayer more than R1.7-million.
