The ANC government is more worried about name changes than providing services to people in hospitals and supplying medicine, the FF Plus in the Free State said on Thursday.
The provincial ANC was not worried about the lack of service delivery at municipalities, but rather spending energy and money on name changes, FF Plus leader Abrie Oosthuizen said in a statement.
"This (service delivery) is not a problem, but names of towns are apparently a huge problem."
Oosthuizen said the planned changes announced this week by the Free State committee for geographical names were a huge shock to many people.
He said there had been an understanding at provincial level for many years that municipalities and district municipalities would get Sesotho names, but that towns would keep their names.
"There were isolated cases where the old and new name would be used jointly such as Bloemfontein/Mangaung."
Oosthuizen said it was worrying the Free State committee for geographical names wanted the process completed within three months.
"It shows that this process would be pushed through, while important matters faced by residents of the Free State at times take years to be recognised without success."
The FF Plus said the ANC was using name changes "bully" Afrikaners.
Oosthuizen urged the ANC to stick to its election slogan and deliver services.
