Police in the northwest Mexican city of Aguascalientes must keep family photos in their wallet as a preventative measure against corruption, the city mayor announced on Wednesday.

"One of the new proposals we have is that every policeman should keep photos of his family in his wallet, so whenever he opens it he will see his wife and children, and the damage that would be done by behaving inappropriately," Mayor Gabriel Arellano announced at a press conference.

Through this measure, the city's 1600 policemen will feel "shame" when they abuse their power, Arellano hopes.

So far this year 67 Aguascalientes policemen have violated police procedures, and another 20 officers have been fired from their post for corruption.
