A woman from Ghana has tied the knot with her 18-month-old dog, insisting that it possesses qualities not seen in men since her late father, reports ananova.com.

The 29-year-old Emily Mabou married the pooch in a ceremony conducted by a traditional priest in front of local villagers. The priest asked those in attendance not to make fun of the event but rather to "rejoice with her as she has found happiness at last".

"For so long, I've been praying for a life partner who will have all the qualities of my dad. My dad was kind, faithful, and loyal to my mum, and he never let her down," said the new bride.

"I've been in relationships with so many men here, and they are all the same — skirt-chasers and cheaters. My dog is kind, and loyal to me and he treats me with so much respect."

Mabou's family is said to have boycotted the wedding, which was "a stupid step to combat her loneliness", according to her brother David.
