A dead body was left on a third-floor balcony in Los Angeles for days as neighbours believed it was part of a Halloween display.

Mostafa Mahmoud Zayed's body was propped up in a chair with a gunshot wound to the head, reported the Daily Telegraph.

The 75-year-old man's body was seen almost a week before police were called because neighbours in the complex thought it "looked like a Halloween dummy".

"The body was in plain view of the entire apartment complex and they all didn't do anything. It's very strange. It did look unreal, to be honest," cameraman Austin Raishbrook said.

The police believe Zayed killed himself.
