A sledding competition in Germany pulled some 17 000 spectators — because the competitors were all topless.
The naked sledding world championships took place in Braunlage, with dozens of semi-naked sledders taking part. Teams of male and female sledders took part, with each competitor wearing just a pair of briefs and a helmet.
"It's a very closely fought contest which is good for us because we're all very keen on studying the photo finishes," said a judge, after three hotel employees claimed the title.
Tobias Wannemaker, who organised the race, said: "This year attracted more people than ever. The naked sledders definitely got things hotting up, even in such cold conditions.
"Over 400 people applied for a place in the third annual race but we could only select 30. We had people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It made for an interesting selection. Next year we hope we can select more people," he added.
