Fifteen motorists were arrested in Johannesburg for speeding, metro police said on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the highest speed was by a 35-year-old man who was caught driving at 208 kilometres an hour in Midrand.

"He told officers that he was taking chances to drive at that speed because he didn't expect officers would be on duty," said Minnaar.

In another incident, a 35-year-old paraplegic man was arrested at the N1 Allendale off-ramp for speeding after he was caught driving at 188 kilometres an hour on Saturday.

All motorists were charged with speeding and released on R1000 bail.

They were expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Monday.
