Free State premier Beatrice Marshoff declined to comment on Wednesday on "advice" from the provincial ANC leadership that she should quit.
"I cannot speak on the possibility of resigning, or redeployment," she told Sapa after attending a Free State Legislature sitting in Bloemfontein.
Marshoff said all statements in this regard would come from the African National Congress as there was a process to be followed.
Earlier in the day, the ANC in the province said Marshoff would remain premier for now, but she had been advised to leave her post.
Provincial ANC secretary Sbongile Besani said provincial officials and the premier had met to discuss an ANC resolution that she be removed.
He said Marshoff would get back to the ANC on the "advice" they had given her, but no time limit had been decided on.
The ANC Youth League in the Free State urged Marshoff on Wednesday afternoon to accept the ANC's decision.
"It is really good advice," Free State ANC youth league chairperson Thabo Meeko said.
He said when the structures of the ANC had taken a decision, that decision must be implemented.
"According to our understanding the train had begun in Polokwane and must arrive at Lebohang Building (Free State's main government building)."
Provincial ANC officials have had several discussions with ANC national working committee members regarding the premier's redeployment, the latest of which was on Tuesday at ANC headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg.
Besani confirmed the ANC's national executive committee would have to make a final decision on the matter.
