Representatives of the ANC branches that last week boycotted the party’s provincial congress in Cape Town and staged a rival event in Langa, will meet for talks on Saturday, organisers said.
The branches include all of those in the Dullah Omar region, the province’s largest, with an estimated 30 000 members. The branches maintained that last week's conference, at which former provincial secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha as ANC provincial chair was elected as chair, was "fraudulent". In response to the boycott, the newly-elected provincial executive announced that it had suspended the Dullah Omar region's leadership. Skwatsha and his supporters were accused of falsifying membership numbers and excluding branches that did fully not support the promotion of party president Jacob Zuma as the country's future president. Saturday's meeting is scheduled to start at 10am at the Jansen Ngwezela hall in Langa.
