Emergency services in Cape Town are on high alert as strong winds have been pounding the coastline, the SABC reported on Sunday.

The National Sea Rescue Institute has also been on alert after, in two separate incidents, people were rescued after being swept out to sea.

Near Camps Bay, a stand up paddle boarder from Gauteng was rescued after strong winds blew him out to sea.

Bart Nieuwoudt (40), from Sandton, was found drifting 200 metres off shore and brought back to safety.

In another incident at Langebaan (on the Cape West Coast), two teenage boys were swept away in their rowing boat on the Langebaan Lagoon after their small outboard engine failed.

Neither sustained any injuries.
