A 40-year-old man was killed when rival taxi groups clashed in Vanderbijlpark on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.
Inspector Trudie Wilken said two groups of people, believed to be rival taxi associations, came into conflict at the civic centre around 11am. One of the taxi drivers pulled out a 9mm pistol and allegedly fired several shots at the rival association's members. The 40-year-old man who died on scene was a taxi driver from Kakana in Sebokeng, while a 45-year-old man was wounded. The 35-year-old alleged shooter was arrested soon afterwards by police on foot patrol in the area. He would appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder. The licensed 9mm firearm, believed to be the murder weapon, was confiscated and found to belong to the alleged gunman. Investigations were continuing, said Wilken.
