A Limpopo traditional healer is facing serious jail time after allegedly raping a child visiting him for a consultation in Ga-Marishane, Nebo.
Phaladi Mahlaba, a well-known member of the community, allegedly gave the 16-year-old victim a concoction to drink, leading her to become dizzy and effectively helpless.
The man then reportedly raped the girl, before fleeing his home and sparking a widespread manhunt by police and villagers.
Since being arrested on Sunday, Mahlaba has been denied bail at the Nebo Magistrate’s Court, but will face another bail application hearing next week.
“Members of the community especially parents, are advised not to allow their children to consult these type of sessions alone to prevent and avoid similar incidents,” says Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
