Former South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board chairperson Ellen Tshabalala has been unable to back her claims of gross political interference with detailed information.
During her evidence before the parliamentary inquiry into the board’s affairs Tshabalala claimed political meddling by the African National Congress, South African Communist Party and the Democratic Alliance.
After refusing to give names, she agreed to make a submission in writing.
Inquiry chairperson Vincent Smith says Tshabalala’s given the committee no names.
“She sent us correspondence that is not in affidavit form and secondly the information that we required has not been forthcoming to the extent that we thought it would be for instance she (refers to) political parties and I think we asked for names”
Tshabalala will now be asked to resubmit her submission in the form of an affidavit, as she was testifying under oath when she made the claims.
Tshabalala resigned after Parliament found she’d lied about her qualifications.
