JOHANNESBURG - Rescue teams are expected back on the scene on Tuesday morning where a five-year-old boy fell into a disused mine shaft in Boksburg.
The little boy has been trapped since Saturday.
The search operation was called off on Monday night after rescue workers experienced difficulty breathing underground.
MMC Vivian Chauke says she was hoping for a happy ending, but she adds this possibility is fast diminishing.
The mother of the five-year-old was unable to speak to the media. She however said she hopes for a positive result after an intense rescue effort.
Residents were unhappy when the mission was called off and sang and chanted showing their dissatisfaction.
Some community members say that for years they’ve called on authorities to seal the hole.
Residents are expected to gather in their hundreds again when the rescue mission resumes.
