The Democratic Alliance has called on the SABC to fire Hlaudi Motsoeneng with immediate effect after he delivered a press briefing on Wednesday which the opposition party states, was in full breach of the public broadcaster’s Code of Conduct.
The DA has alleged that although the Western Cape High Court ordered that Motsoeneng may not hold a position at the SABC whilst awaiting the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings, the broadcaster has continued to pay Motsoeneng R 350 000 a month for a position “without portfolio”.
“Hosting a press conference, as an SABC employee, without permission from the SABC board, or its management, constitutes a deliberate effort to undermine the SABC”, says the DA.
The press briefing was set to shed light on parliament’s ad hoc committee and discuss both present and future problems facing the SABC.
Instead, Motsoeneng lashed out at interim board member, Krish Naidoo, stating that he was part of a politically charged agenda to halt transformation at the SABC.
“Let me tell you, Krish Naidoo is a sell-out”, exclaimed Motsoeneng claiming that Naidoo had lied under oath before the ad hoc committee.
The opposition party has urged the SABC interim board to “show some teeth” and work towards ridding the broadcaster of individuals who violate its rules.
