A three-year attempted murder investigation in Worcester has concluded with the arrest of two people in what has been identified as a gang related incident by the South African Police Service.
The Worcester Regional Court sentenced Brandon Boer (24) and Reginald Filander (29) to 10 and 11 years imprisonment respectively, after it was found that they had shot and gravely wounded two individuals who they believed to be rival gang members.
The court heard how Boer and Filander attempted to trick the victims by taking them to an isolated shack where they promised to sell dagga to them. The two accused then produced unlicensed forearms and shot one victim in the right eye and the other in the back after a brief scuffle.
The investigating officer, Detective Constable John Saayman, was able to arrest the suspects shortly after the incident first occurred in March 2014 much to the praise of his commanding officer and the courts
SAPS has stated that the duration of the investigation was crucial to the incarceration of the perpetrators.
