A Kwazulu-Natal witchdoctor has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for a murder committed in 2014, in what local SAPS call a fitting sentence.
Dumisani Mlotshwa, 42, was convicted by the Madadeni Regional Court for murder and given 20 years for the murder of a 46-year-old male and an additional 10 years for the theft of the victim’s motor vehicle.
“This is a fitting sentence handed down to the accused as he showed no mercy when killing an innocent victim”, said acting Provincial Comissioner, Major General Bheki Langa. “I strongly condemn violent killings directed to any person in the province and those who are involved will be harshly dealt with”, he added as a warning.
The police were first directed to the case in 2014 when a suspicious body was found in the river in the Madadeni area. Upon further investigation, the police recognised that the man had been assaulted before being dumped in the river.
Thorough investigation led to the understanding that the accused assaulted the victim to steal his vehicle and an escalated struggle led to the victim’s death.
