The Human Settlements Department says its concerned that many government officials have made promises to Ennerdale and Eldorado Park residents, including the provision of houses, which they have not been able to honour.
Residents in the two areas have barricaded roads, demanding either a piece of land to build on or houses.
Police have arrested 50 people after protesters in Eldorado Park looted shops on Monday, while more officers are being deployed to Ennerdale on Tuesday afternoon.
Thami Kaplaatjie is an adviser to Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and says he is collecting information from residents in Ennerdale and will get back to the community in two weeks - on how to resolve the housing issue.
He says in many instances politicians make promises they can't honour, fueling the violence among residents.
“These are some of the critical problems that I think our government has to deal with; the speed to which things are done vs the speed to which things are promised is a serious contradiction in my view.”
Kaplaatjie says it's wrong that these residents have been waiting for houses for over 20 years and are being bullied by other residents who illegally occupy land.
