African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says the recall of President Jacob Zuma is not on the agenda.
Mantashe has briefed the media about the national executive committee (NEC) meeting currently underway at the Saint George's Hotel in Pretoria.
The meeting follows growing calls for Zuma to step down after his controversial Cabinet reshuffle in April which resulted in two ratings agencies downgrading the country to junk status.
The secretary general says the agenda for the NEC meeting was discussed yesterday already and the recall of the president is not part of it.
“Discussions are about to begin but it’s not on the agenda… it’s not an agenda item.”
He says while discussions are about to begin, he can't say NEC members will turn against each other.
“We are reading it in the newspapers that there will be blood on the floor, we’ve not seen that blood on the floor yet.”
Mantashe says the NEC started with soft issues yesterday and will deal with the hard issues today.
