The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed a parliamentary decision to review the recently released Ciex report headed by the office of the Public Protector.
On Monday, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane presented controversial recommendations surrounding the mandate of the South African Reserve Bank, ultimately advising to limit the protective powers of the institution over the Rand.
“The Public Protector’s remedial action has had a negative effect on the value of our currency and ratings agencies have expressed their deep concern over the proposed erosion of the independence of the SARB”, reads the statement by DA Shadow Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Glynnis Breytenbach.
Mkhwebane has come under fire for both her remarks and for the lack of action in the current State Capture saga, prompting questions of her suitability for the role.
The DA, along with other opposition parties, has welcomed the decision by parliament to review the report rendered public by Mkhwebane.
