Karabo Mokoena's alleged killer has painted himself as the victim, telling the Johannesburg Magistrates Court that she was jealous and abused him.
Sandile Mantsoe is accused of murdering Mokoena, setting her alight and burying her body in a shallow grave in Lyndhurst earlier this year.
A media ban on the case was lifted on Friday and shocking details have now been made public.
The married father of three claims Mokoena committed suicide.
Mantsoe's affidavit read in court on Friday refutes the version of events given by the investigating officer in this case.
The officer told the court Mantsoe gave a statement saying he had conducted rituals with Mokoena including the mixing of their blood and getting matching crucifix tattoos to aid his failing business.
The officer said according to Mantsoe, when the pair ended their relationship, he was forced to kill her in order to break the jinx over his business.
Mantsoe, however, maintains that he didn’t kill Mokoena and denies having cuts or tattoos on his body.
He says he is no danger to society and therefore should be granted bail.
A decision on bail is expected at the end of the month.
