13 officials from the Johannesburg Correctional Centre will be served with suspension letters after they organised an explicit ‘strip-show’ as entertainment for inmates during Youth Month Celebrations.
The Department of Correctional Services began investigation into the matter when images of scantily dressed women entertaining the prisoners started circulating on social media causing a massive uproar.
“At this stage, preliminary findings indicate that at least 13 officials will be served with letters of contemplation of suspension”, said acting National Commissioner James Smalberger.
In one of the images it appears that the women undressed the inmate while dancing around him.
Commissioner Smalberger has expressed that this form of entertainment is completely against policies and that the guilty parties will face the consequences of their actions.
Smalberger also apologised to the citizens of South Africa, calling the matter “very disturbing”.
