Parliament has announced that National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has scheduled for the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma to take place on 3 August 2017.
Parliament’s spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said: “In the interim, the speaker has requested political parties to submit their standpoint with regard to whether a motion of no confidence should be done by way of a secret ballot or an open ballot. This will form part of a whole range of matters that she will consider.”
Last week, the Constitutional Court ruled that the speaker had the discretion to determine whether the vote would be in secret or not.
The President has survived seven similar attempts by opposition Members of Parliament to remove him from office.
