JOHANNESBURG - The Home Affairs Department has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure of its offices across the country on Saturday.
This is due to the ongoing negotiations with labour unions PSA, Nehawu, and Nupsaw as employees demand extra pay for working Saturdays.
It’s understood bosses and trade unions will be locked in talks to try avoid a mass strike.
Home Affairs' David Hlabane says more negotiations will take place next week.
“It’s hard to say what will happen beyond Saturday. Next Saturday will be determined by the outcome of discussion next week.”
It’s understood negotiations are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday.
The department has reiterated a call for quality service be delivered to South Africans, adding the matter needs to be finalised.
