The trial date of axed Ekurhuleni metro police chief Robert McBride was again postponed in the Pretoria Regional Court on Thursday.

McBride, wearing a dark suit and tie, appeared briefly in the dock where the matter was postponed until Friday, 21 November.

This was after prosecutor Christo Roberts told the court the trial date could not be set on Thursday, because McBride's legal representatives were not present.

Last month his legal team told the court they would be present to give an undertaking that they had received all State documents pertaining to McBride's drunk driving charge.

Roberts said he had received a letter from McBride's lawyers in which he had in effect been called dishonest because it was alleged that they had not disclosed all the documents.

"[They said] we were not playing the game and not giving them what they need."

He said negotiations between the defence and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions were ongoing.

"On that date [21 November] I hope there will be someone representing the accused," said Roberts.
