A police reservist has been killed by a group of men while patrolling the Diepkloof taxi rank area in Soweto on Wednesday night.
While responding to a Trio Crime complaint at the Salaam Supermarket near the station, Constable Collins Maluleke and his patrol partner were fired upon.
Constable Maluleke suffered fatal wounds to the chest and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearby hospital.
This comes after national SAPS efforts to increase resources for the fight against business and residential robberies and hijackings, collectively termed Trio Crimes.
“The police have launched a manhunt for a group of about five to six suspects who shot and killed the police reservist”, said the SAPS’s Lungelo Dlamini.
