Three accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal attack on a farm in the Nyoni area, in 2015, which resulted in the death of Peter Johnson (56).
Sabelo Zulu (22), Nana Madikane (44) and Thandiwe Cele (54) were handed their sentences by the Mthunzini High Court following a lengthy investigation into the night of the attack.
Reports say that the men had planned to rob the farmhouse on June 2nd 2015 at 19:00 while the victim and his brother were inside. The three-accused shot and killed Johnson on the spot and wounded his brother.
The police were quick to respond, but only managed to catch one of the suspects who had been injured on the scene. The investigation was then taken over by a specialised unit and through intensive investigations the SAPS found that the robbery had been organised by 5 people and executed by 3.
Two of the men are therefore still at large, yet the local SAPS and community have welcomed the sentencing of the suspects caught so far as a triumph of justice.
