Social Development Minister, Bathabile Dlamini, and SASSA CEO, Thokozani Magwaza, have agreed to part ways, yet many speculate the latter had very little say to begin with.
According to the Department of Social Development (DSD) Magwaza resigned following lengthy discussions with the Minister allegedly surrounding his contract provisions. The split has thus been framed as a mutual break based on contractual differences.
However, many believe that Magwaza’s departure, under alleged circumstances of death threats, is yet another symptom of bad governance by part of the Department of Social Development and those at its helm.
“Magwaza is now the second senior official, after former DSD Director General Zane Dangor, who was coerced into resigning after his family’s safety was threatened”, said DA Shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridget Masango.
Magwaza was seen as a top whistle blower in the social grants saga and according to some sources was spearheading the search for a different service provider in line with the Constitutional Court ruling from earlier this year.
The DSD will now look to replace Magwaza while staying true to their March 2018 deadline.
