The case against alleged wife killer Jason Rohde has been transferred to the Western Cape High Court. The real estate executive appeared in the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was arrested almost a month after Susan Rohde’s body was found in the bathroom of their hotel room, at the Spier Estate near Stellenbosch a year ago.
Susan Rohde’s death was initially thought to be suicide but a post-mortem found she died of manual strangulation.
The State alleges her husband strangled her to death.
The prosecution claims Jason Rohde tampered with the crime scene by locking the bathroom door and placing a hair iron cord around his wife’s neck to make it appear as if she committed suicide.
Rohde is also accused of providing police with false information because he allegedly tried to mislead officers about the circumstances of his wife’s death.
His first appearance in the Western Cape High Court is on 18 August, for a pre-trial hearing and a trial date has been set for 9 October.
