Management at insurance company MiWay says that it will not file charges against the person responsible for sending out a racist mail in the company’s name in which black clients are referred to as baboons.
Miway says that it can confirm that the identity of the person responsible is known to them, after the company conducted an independent forensic investigation.
The insurance company says the man had a policy with MiWay and tried to get a claim but the claim was rejected because it didn’t comply with the conditions of the policy.
Miway CEO Rene Otto says the man responsible for the offensive and racist email screenshot used an email from a staff member, edited it and published it.
Otto says that they will share the investigation report but the company would like to hear the side of the offender first.
“At least try and make contact with him, say to him this is what we know, do you want to give input before we proceed?”
Otto says he doesn’t want to take the legal route first.
“Our standard is world class and that’s what I want to measure our journey with this client again and I’m sure he can enlighten me. I want to be open for that.”
He says the incident has had minimal effect on their client numbers.
