Government sources today revealed that authorities are planning to grant Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe, diplomatic immunity following charges of alleged assault laid against her on the weekend.
Following a period of consideration, sources within the Department of International Relations say that it is unlikely that 52-year-old Mugabe will be arrested, despite the fact that this decision will surely prompt legal action by part of the victim.
Mugabe made headlines when 20-year-old South African model, Gabriella Engels, alleged that she and a friend had become victims of assault at the hands of the first lady while at Sandton Hotel on Sunday.
This is not the first time that Mugabe has been involved in similar incidents. Both Engels and a Zimbabwean social activist group voiced their belief that Mugabe should not be allowed to conduct herself in such a manner despite her status and name.
This will be the second time that Mugabe will be awarded diplomatic immunity.
