A five-year-old girl from Mitchells Plain has been hailed as a hero from authorities after she aided local SAPS in identifying a man who recently sexually assaulted her.
The young victim was sexually assaulted by a 49-year-old man on the weekend and managed to alert the police soon after her ordeal.
The City of Cape Town law enforcement’s Wayne Dyason explains: “Officers went to investigate and the suspect fled the scene. The officers took the victim to SAPS in Mitchells Plain‚ where the brave young girl informed the officers she knew the suspect and showed the officers where he lived in Tafelsig‚ Mitchells Plain.”
The police's Noloyiso Rwexana says the girl was allegedly raped in a bush near Kapteinsklip.
“A 49-year-old man has been arrested and was charged. He will appear in the Mitchells Plain magistrates court.”
The Western Cape has seen an elevated amount of rape and assault crimes towards minors this year, with reports showing 20 reported cases had been identified as early as March this year.
